Run and review work

Every worker costs model usage, billed by the provider its client uses. Check the proposed worker and budget before you start it.

Start a worker

From the dashboard. In Chat, describe the change. Choose Review and start, then Confirm and start for each task you want. Follow the workers in Team and find the results in Issues. See The dashboard.

From a Claude Code or Codex session. Ask the session to hand the work to an AgentD worker. The agentd skill drafts the task from the code (goal, acceptance criteria, verification) and shows it to you before it starts anything.

From the terminal. agentd run starts one worker on one task in the current repository and waits for it:

agentd run "Add a test for the parser" --budget 30m
  • Worker: Claude by default; --worker claude|codex chooses.
  • Check: guessed and shown before it starts, such as go test ./... for a Go module, npm test for a package.json with a test script, or pytest. --check CMD sets it. Without one, the result is not tested.
  • Budget: 30 minutes unless you pass --budget.
  • Uncommitted changes: the run is refused, because the worker's commit would take them; --allow-dirty goes ahead anyway.

It ends with a card: the handoff id, worker, branch and commit, diff stat, check exit code, minutes and dollars. Ctrl-C detaches; follow the worker with agentd handoff show ID.

Where the work goes

A worker on main, master or a detached HEAD gets a git worktree of its own under .claude/worktrees, on a new agentd/… branch. Your checkout stays where it was. A worker on another branch works on that branch.

Workers are told never to push and to commit only through AgentD. On a Claude worker both are also enforced by a rule; on a Codex worker they are not. The agentd run card reads every remote before and after the worker and prints !! PUSHED if a ref for the branch changed.

Review and merge

A finished worker leaves commits on its branch and a result card: the check, the changed files, time and cost. To merge:

  1. Review the branch.
  2. Push it and open a pull request.
  3. Once the PR is linked, merge it from Issues in the dashboard, or on GitHub.

AgentD never pushes or merges for you.
